Tenthouse Structures was responsible for the design engineering, supply, and installation of four custom roof membrane structures for The Sanctuary, the newest addition to Mombo Camp in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

Conceived as a dedicated wellness centre, The Sanctuary [watch on YouTube] blends holistic therapies, thoughtful architectural design, and a deep connection to the Delta’s natural rhythms and surrounding wilderness.

Having previously collaborated on the Mombo Camp and Little Mombo projects, Tenthouse Structures once again partnered with our client Wilderness to develop roof structures that extend and evolve the existing architectural language of the camp. The design approach carefully carried forward the established roof form vocabulary, whilst complimenting the organic layout of The Sanctuary ensuring that the overall look integrates seamlessly with the broader camp aesthetic.

The custom membrane roofs were engineered to provide generous shade, natural ventilation, and protection from the harsh African sun, while maintaining a light, organic presence within the landscape. Their sculptural forms echo the surrounding Delta environment, creating calm, shaded spaces that enhance the tranquil and restorative experience envisioned for The Sanctuary.

Through careful design engineering and precise installation, the resulting tensile structures complement the architecture of Mombo Camp while supporting Wilderness’s vision of a wellness retreat that is both immersive and deeply connected to its extraordinary natural setting.
