SCOPE OF WORK
Turnkey Design and Interiors, Supply and Install
Tenthouse Structures delivered a fully integrated turnkey solution for this exclusive-use luxury retreat, encompassing site planning, architectural design, tensile design-engineering, interior design, procurement, supply and installation of the front-of-house structures.
The design was shaped by the ambition to create a secluded, luxury retreat with an intimate connection to the wilderness, while responding sensitively to its remote Kalahari setting. Entirely powered by solar energy and conceived to leave a light footprint on the landscape, the structures were design-engineered around the demands of the region’s extreme semi-arid climate. Durability, thermal comfort, natural ventilation and environmental responsiveness were central to the architectural and engineering approach.
The retreat comprises four luxury double guest tents, lounge and dining spaces, a kitchen and satellite WC facilities, all developed using Tenthouse Structures’ T2 Modular® building system and specialist architectural textiles. Expansive glazed openings connect the interiors with uninterrupted views across the calcrete pan, creating a continuous relationship between inside and out.
Across the accommodation, lounge, dining and kitchen areas, Tenthouse Structures’ proprietary Oculus roof design provides a distinctive architectural language while integrating the structural and environmental performance required for the setting. The result brings together architecture, specialist tensile engineering and lightweight construction in one of Africa’s most extraordinary landscapes.
Tenthouse Structures also led the interior design, procurement and styling, curating materials, textures and finishes inspired by the colours, flora and character of the surrounding Kalahari. The interiors complete the turnkey approach, creating a cohesive guest experience from the architecture and structural systems through to the final furnishings and styling.
