Turnkey Design and Interiors, Supply and Install

Tenthouse Structures was responsible for the full turnkey site planning, design-engineering, supply, and installation of this remote luxury tented camp in South Africa’s Kalahari Desert.

Kanako Expedition Camp comprises six guest suites, a central lounge and dining area, kitchen, satellite WC facilities, and boma areas. The camp planning carefully considered circulation, privacy, and orientation, ensuring each space responds sensitively to the surrounding environment while maximising views and enhancing guest immersion. The overall design allowing the camp to sit quietly within its setting, fostering a seamless connection to the landscape.

To meet site-specific performance requirements, we adapted our Expedition Camp tent system for the Kalahari’s extreme semi-arid climate. With summer temperatures often exceeding 35°C, seasonal thunderstorms, and cold winter nights, we prioritised durability, thermal comfort, and natural ventilation, while maintaining the lightweight and low-impact footprint of our Expedition Camps tents.

Tenthouse Structures also led the interior design, procurement, and styling of the camp, curating spaces that reflect the raw beauty, flora, and fauna of the region to deliver a refined and comfortable safari experience.

Set within a landscape of vast skies, red sand, golden grasses, and remarkable wildlife, the camp offers a quiet, immersive retreat that celebrates both the fragile beauty and enduring resilience of the Kalahari.
